The Artificial Intelligence Research Department at Suzhou Laboratory advances the integration of AI and materials science. Its work spans intelligent materials computation, autonomous experiments, materials big data and foundation models, developing technologies and platforms for data-driven and AI-driven materials research. iPowder is developed by the research groups of Zhenjie Feng and Xin Chen in this department.
Zhenjie Feng’s research group has long worked on XRD data-analysis algorithms and scientific software , accumulating nearly two decades of work in powder diffraction processing, structure solution, phase identification and automated Rietveld refinement. From GEST and PeckCryst, the work expanded to AutoFP, PowderBot, iRing, iQual and iModel, ultimately converging in iPowder. Collaborators including Rongrong Jia at Shanghai University have also supported and participated in parts of this research and development.
This work spans diffraction patterns to crystal structures and manual analysis to automated computation, providing a sustained methodological and software foundation for iPowder’s algorithms, structural models and intelligent workflows.
iPowder integrates accumulated X-ray characterization algorithms, crystallography and AI into one platform spanning data processing, structural analysis and intelligent decisions.
Its development is driven by ongoing research and algorithm innovation as well as practical materials research needs.
Supporting autonomous laboratory needs at Suzhou Laboratory, iPowder continues to develop AI Agents, instrument connections and automated analysis to connect scientific analysis with experiments.
For the intelligent operation of the Materials Comprehensive Research Facility, iPowder continues to develop data interpretation and analysis to support materials research with more effective X-ray characterization.
Advance X-ray characterization from conventional processing to intelligent analysis and autonomous experiments , providing efficient, reliable characterization tools for more materials research teams.
